I still don't get it

While I was away on holiday my brother persuaded me to sign up for Facebook. I've always been a bit sceptical of that sort of thing as I don't see what I'll get out of it.

Having signed up and set up my profile, I still don't see the point. If I want to keep in touch with my brother or sisters, I can phone or email. I've looked for people I might know and might have found one or two but it looks like most people I know aren't there. So why on earth would I want to use Facebook? Personally, I'd rather blog!

Can anyone enlighten me?

I can't help enlighten you - I don't get it either! I also found it slightly invasive. Anything you change on your profile shows up as a note to your friends. So when I changed my status from "In a relationship" to "Single" after a breakup, I got condolences from distant friends. Close friends knew - I didn't really want to broadcast to the world! I closed my account. Plus, if you believe the conspiracy theories, they're tied to the CIA.(http://www.brainsturbator.com/articles/facebook_the_cia_and_you/)

Nope, I don't get it either! I signed up for Facebook and MySpace after friends raved about them. But like you, I'd rather blog!

Horses for courses, I guess?

Yep, like you I'm giving it a try after everyone around me raves about it ... but I figure those are the people who don't have blogs! I'm trying to add photos every now and then, but I struggle to keep up to date with blogs never mind thinking about going into Facebook! Then again, I've also had contact from two cousins in Canada I never would have had contact from, so I guess that way it's been good ... hmmm ... still not entirely convinced, though ;)

Don't worry, I didn't get it either! It seemed like a waste of time (and I spend enough time on the internet!).

No, can't say I see the point either. I've never been tempted.

I never did the MySpace thing, but I've really got into Facebook since I joined up at the end of last year. If you don't know many people on it and the few you do know are people you keep in touch with regularly anyway, then I'd agree that it's probably pointless.

I'm back in touch with so many people because of it (old friends from school/uni/work, etc..) I find it great for keeping in touch with people who you'd otherwise lose touch with (that's the #1 reason I like it). These are of course people who don't "blog" - and wouldn't be interested in my blog either (as it's only stitching related). I love that you can share photos and see what everyone is up to and how they're doing, you can drop in and say "hi" whenever you get the urge... and if you set up your privacy preferences, only your "friends" can see this sort of stuff.

It's been good for me so far in the year or so I've been using it anyway! Maybe the novelty will wear off one day...
